American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Courses

​Blended-Learning Lifeguard Training Courses Offered at Camp Quinebarge:

The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course is designed to prepare candidates to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies in their specific aquatic environment. This course is open to all candidates looking to obtain their Lifeguarding Certification for:

  • Swimming Pools
  • Waterfronts (Includes bays, lakes, ponds, beaches, and swimming pools 20 ft. deep or less)
  • Youth Camps (Includes waterfronts and swimming pools 20ft. deep or less)
  • Lifeguard Recertification

Prerequisites for Lifeguard Training:

All lifeguarding candidates must meet the following prerequisite to participate in training:

  • Be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course
  • Successfully complete and pass the Online Blended-Learning Training
  • Successfully complete Pre-Skills Assessment Below for Deep Pools (max depth 20 ft.), Waterfronts (bays, lakes, ponds, and beaches)​, and Youth Camps:
    • Distance Swim: Continuously swim distance specific to certification demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using front crawl and/or breaststroke. Goggles are allowed during the distance swim.
      • POOL LIFEGUARDS: 300 yards ( 12 pool laps)
      • WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDS: 550 yards (22 pool laps)
    • Breath Control Drill:
      • Swim 5 yards
      • Submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water
      • Resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence
    • Tread water for two minutes, using only legs
    • Submerged Brick Drill completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds:
      • ​Start in the water, swim 20 yards (no goggles)
      • Surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object
      • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to starting position with both hands on the object and keeping the face at or near the surface
      • Exit water without using a ladder or steps

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training Courses

Blended Learning Water Safety Instructor Training Course: 

The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to plan, prepare, and teach Red Cross Learn-To-Swim and Water Safety programs. The course focuses on:

  • Teaching water safety concepts and swimming progressions
  • Lesson planning and management strategies 
  • Best-practice teaching methods for all swimmers
  • Techniques for building relationships with families

Prerequisites for Water Safety Instructor Training:

All lifeguarding candidates must meet the following prerequisite to participate in training:

  • Be at least 16 years old by the last day of the course
  • Successfully complete and pass the Online Blended-Learning Training
  • Successfully complete swim skills evaluation:
    1. Swim 25 yards (1 pool lap) of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke
    2. Swim 15 yards of butterfly
    3. Float on back for one minute
    4. Tread water for one minute

Water Safety Instructor Training Registration

WSI Training consists of online and in-person training. To participate in the training dates below, it is required that you complete your online training prior to any virtual and in-person training dates. You will receive an email from your instructor with more information about your course as we get closer to training.

Saturday, June 18, 2022, AND
Sunday, June 19, 2022
9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Lifeguard Training Registration

Lifeguard Training consists of online and in-person training. To participate in your in-person lifeguarding training session, it is required that you complete your online training prior to our in-person training dates listed below. You will receive an email from your instructor with more information about your course as we get closer to training.
