Waterfront Lifeguarding (includes bays, lakes, ponds, beaches, and swimming pools – 20ft deep or less)
Prepare to protect lives in both pool and waterfront settings with this comprehensive certification course.
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module equips candidates with essential skills for guarding in both traditional pool environments and non-surf open water locations such as lakes, ponds, campsites, and rural recreation areas.
Unlike pool settings, waterfront environments pose unique challenges—unpredictable conditions, limited visibility, and expansive swim zones. This course prepares lifeguards to confidently prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies in both types of settings.
Through blended learning, candidates receive both online instruction and in-person skills sessions. You will build a strong foundation in pool lifeguarding skills and then advance into waterfront-specific training, where you’ll learn how to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, navigate natural elements, all while gaining the confidence and tools needed to manage complex rescue scenarios in deep water and waterfront environments.
Certification Earned*:
- Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water)
- Waterfront Skills
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid
*All certifications are valid for 2 years upon successful completion.
Best For:
Camp lifeguards and counselors, outdoor waterfront staff, adventure and nature program leaders, and anyone supervising swimmers in natural, non-surf water environments.

HERE’S WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING…
“I took the Water Safety Instructor Course with The Aquatic Connection, formally Teach America To Swim. The course was the perfect balance between pool and classroom learning. I loved that the instructor guided us through the swimming progressions for each stroke. Sabrina’s feedback was specific and immediately help me improve my bad swimming habits. She was also a great resource to help me plan the structure of my learn-to-swim program at camp this summer.”

“This class left me feeling so confident about being a lifeguard. I was provided with so many examples of what could happen at a pool facility, how to deal with them, and a ton of practice time with each scenario. I would recommend this course to anyone trying to be a lifeguard.”
